Report on Unique Puja Parikrama 2010

Banchbo organizes two very unique Durga Puja Sarod Samman awards in Kolkata.

The first event started in the year 2002, when Banchbo added a new dimension in Sharadotsav of Kolkata by rating Durga Puja by street children and underpriviledged children of Kolkata and other parts of West Bengal. Since then this unique Durga Puja rating and Ride is being organised succesfully with active support from all sectors of the society including corporates and specially with warm participation of several puja committees including many well known pujas of Kolkata. This year (2010) 45 children comprising of underpriviled children of Sunderbans, South 24 parganas and Kolkata participated in the puja ride and rating. As per their valuable judgement, 3 puja committies were selected for Banchbo Sharad Samman 2010 Awards:

WINNER :: SWAPNAR BAGAN (Kankurgachi / Purba Maniktala) [Theme- Swapner Pheriwala]
1^ST RUNNER UP :: NETAJI JATIYA SEBADAL (Tollygunge) [Theme- Tumi Srishti Tumi Stithi Tumii Loy Bhuvan Bhara Ankhi Tomar Tumi Je Jyortimay]
2^ND RUNNER UP :: KENDUA SANTI SANGHA (Patuli) [Theme- Hate Khari]

Details of the 45 children who judged the pujas:

27 Underpriviledged Children from Indranarayanpur Village, Pathar Pratima of Sundarban, (Ages 8 to 12) including Children from Muslim Community.
10 Children from Krishti Chakra(NGO-Sarshuna,South 24Pgs).
8 Slum children from Kolkata including children from Santal families.

The second event, equally interesting, commenced during Durga Puja 2008 when Banchbo's Durga Puja ride also started including Senior Citizens comprising of all sectors of societies including representation from Old Age Homes and the underpriviedged. (In India, senior communities are called Old Age homes). This year 34 senior citizens participted in the ride and as per their expert rating 4 puja committies were selected for Banchbo Healing Touch Sharad Samman 2010 Awards:

WINNER :: BAISHNABGHATA PATULI UPANAGARI (B.P Township).
1^ST RUNNER UP :: NAKTALA UDAYAN SANGHA (Naktala).
2^ND RUNNER :: PALLI UNNAYAN (Paschim Putiary).
SERA SEVA SAMMAN :: MITALI (Kankurgachi).

The Banchbo Sharad Shamman awards, Banchbo Healing Touch Sharad Samman awards and prize distribution ceremony program will be held in January /February 2011 in the presence of several dignitories.
